Meet 45 year old Serge Mumba, the new coach of the Livingstone Youth Football Academy senior men’s team. Serge is a well-seasoned coach and is better known to his colleagues and players as Zico.
He is a stout football veteran who has been coaching football for 12 years. Serge started his coaching career only two years after retiring from professional football. He coached his first team in 2006; Nantes FC in Lusaka.
Zico went on to coach Betaron Shooting Stars, a Division 2 team in Lusaka, the Zambian Capital; before upgrading to Division 1 and coaching Young Stars. Serge expanded his coaching reach and has coached a team known as FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo in the DR Congo.
Serge has lived a great part of his life in the DR Congo where he played most of his football. He played in the DRC’s Division 1 as an attacking mid-fielder and has played for African giants TP-Mazembe. His football career drove him to play for a league two Swiss team known as Marly FC for two years.
The greatest pride of his career so far is his work at FC Saint-Éloi Lupopo where he removed the team from the slumber it was in. Despite players leaving the club due to financial problems, Zico was able to uplift the team which is now one of TP-Mazembe’s biggest rivals.
Serge is a CAF B licensed coach and has high hopes for the Livingstone Youth Football Academy team. He is focused on drilling the team and qualifying them to the next level of their careers.
